Publishing Your Book

Everyone wants to be a writer. The amount of people who consider writing for a living is enormous. Ironically many people fail not because they are not talented writers, but because they do not understand how to get their book published. There is a procedure that must be followed if you want to really have any chance at all. Book publishing is extremely competitive. The publishers out there get hundreds of manuscripts every week. In order to get your manuscript seen requires some knowledge and skill.

Right off the bat you need to no that no one, and I really mean no one, accepts unsolicited material. The reasons for this vary. One main reason is the litigious state of our society. Many writers will sue publishers claiming that the publisher has stolen their work. The hassle is not worth it. Any reputable publisher will have a requirement that the writer receive permission before submitting material. When this is done the permission is a matter of record and will protect against any claims of theft.

Another reason that publishers will not accept unsolicited material is because they receive so much material all of the time. They do not have the time to go through everything. Due to this unsolicited materials will not get looked at. If you are ready to send in a submission make sure that you receive permission FIRST. If you do not do not expect for your material to get reviewed and kiss the money that you spent for postage and materials good bye.

You also need to know that submission must be presented meeting professional standards. The length of this article will not allow me to go into detail about what the exact professional standards are. It is a fairly complicated process. You can not expect to just print something out, throw it in an envelope, and send it on its' way. A professional presentation will increase your odds of having your submission reviewed and accepted.

Below is a review of a great resource that will go over all of this in great detail. Most people do not understand that submitting a book with the intention of getting published requires knowledge because of the intense competition. Please do not start until you know exactly what you need to do and how. This could be the difference between having your work published or not.
