What Color is Your Parachute For Teens - Book Review

I just finished reading "What color is your parachute for teens" by Richard Nelson Bolles. As a career counselor and owner of a teen job board, I have ready almost every book available in the teen jobs category. I had really high expectations for this book based on the huge success of the "What color is your parachute" franchise. This book exceeded my expectations and then some. The book highlights the importance of determining what interests you and then planning career options based upon that.

What I like most about the book is its simplicity and direct approach. The authors dive into all the choices that teens have in searching for a career and most importantly provides a road map for effective career exploration. The book also helps teens in deciding what majors to select. I wish i had this book when I was a teen because I was undecided until my junior year in college. I also like that the book was written to appeal and educate not only teens but also their parents. There are a ton of suggestions on what parents can do to help their teens make critical decisions about their career direction. I also like how the book uses real life examples and stories to get their point across.

In closing, I would recommend this book to any high school or college student who is having trouble deciding on a direction for their career future. I would also recommend this for parents of teens as well as educators.
