The Sacrificial Wood - Book Two in the Faithwalker Series by Darryl Markowitz

I didn't think that book #2, The Sacrificial Wood, could be better than the first book, Call of the Tree, but it is!

The story of Stephanie and Vaughn continues in The Sacrificial Wood. As Stephanie struggles under the emotional exploitation of her father, her only salvation is her new stepmother and little stepsister. Then Stephanie meets a new friend. Arlupo sees something in Stephanie that is very special, if Stephanie chooses to follow her calling.

Vaughn is fighting his own battles, utilizing the knowledge and wisdom he had gained from The Art of Fighting to survive. Has he used the age-old rules correctly? He hopes so, but as he lies close to death he yearns for Stephanie. Can he find the strength to survive and reunite with her?

The path that Stephanie has chosen is bewildering to her. There is light and darkness, goodness and demons. What is the meaning of the Tree of Life and this thing they call her, a "faithwalker"?

This is the age-old story of good vs. evil, without the "religion". Youth of any age can appreciate the exceptionally well laid out plot, which makes putting this book down very difficult indeed. The author demonstrates a deep understanding of the struggles we all face in life and the true meaning of love. Love for a friend, a person of the opposite sex, and for the goodness that can be found if we search for it. For Stephanie and Vaughn the search for goodness and light is not easy, the darkness and demons are always present. Will they endure? I can't wait for book #3!
